Ben is off to yet another Army school for some training. This is the first time he has been gone since he came back from Iraq at the end of October. Colby is now well aware that Daddy is gone and is not coming back tomorrow or the next day or even next week.

So I decided we needed to make a calendar to count down the days. They loved the whole “making” part of it. I asked them to color and decorate it.

Colby drew a picture of Daddy taking a shower. Thank goodness it was not anatomically correct, but it did have a belly button.

So we are on the countdown, crossing days off and looking forward to the day we get to pick my dear ol’ soldier up from the airport.

God bless him, I’m glad he loves this stuff because they couldn’t pay me enough or give me enough coffee to do something like that.

The end of my fifth year as a mom has come to an end. Colby will be 5 on May 16, but I count the pregnant time as a mom. He was using me as life support. I am so thankful for my two boys. They are the most wonderful, fascinating, interesting people I know! They take after me in so many ways: kindness, goodness, thoughtfulness, I could go on and on. They take after their dad too: fighting with each other; running around the backyard naked, while refusing to take a bath; listening to Twisted Sister and Tom Petty; wearing the same shirt three days in a row all because it is their favorite one.

I love their dad so much for loving me and being a great dad to them. It makes my job as a mother so easy when I have such an awesome husband who helps me out. Today, Ben was gone, away for work for three weeks. However, I wasn’t sad because Mother’s day happens all the time around here. Ben wakes up early many days and lets me sleep in. He takes the boys to Home Depot or the park so I can get an hour or two of peace and “me” time. He makes dinner, most of the time because he likes to.

Colby made me a wonderful handprint picture as a present and Benji won’t stop saying “Hafy Mugger’s Lay” to me. All in all it was a great day. It ended on a high note because they were both in bed and asleep by 8:15pm. Now I’m off to finish folding another load of laundry and watch a chick flick.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there, everyday.

UpDate On Dad

May 11, 2008

Here is the latest on Dad:  He has been moved to a normal room, out of ICU!  He is looking better and feeling a bit better.  His lung was punctured and collapsed.  They put in a tube to blow in air and suction out the blood and junk.  The hole in the lung is healed and the lung healed and inflated on its own and so he is breathing on his own! Tuesday, he will have surgery to fix the breaks in his back and put him back on track.

Thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts.

I’m not in Georgia, but I feel connected thanks to all my friends and family keeping me updated on how they are doing and how awesome God is in their lives!
